About Me

My name is Jeff Zimmerlin. I’m a 22 year old college
student studying
television,
film, and new media production at
San Diego State University.
I began working in television at a public access TV
station when I was fourteen years old. A few years later, I interned at
KSBY-TV, the NBC affiliate in
San Luis Obispo, California, and shortly thereafter, was hired as a
production assistant.
Less than a year later, I was promoted to the position of
newscast director, which involved planning and coordinating all of the
technical aspects of the show and then
directing the on-air talent and production crew during the station’s live
newscasts. I continued to direct both weekday and weekend newscasts there for
three years until moving away to San Diego to study television, film, and new
media production at SDSU.
Later, I was hired as a technician at KNSD-TV, the NBC O&O
in San Diego, and I stayed there for a short time before deciding to leave so
that I could focus on my academic studies at SDSU.
The specific job duties I’ve had have all centered around
the technical aspects of news production, but I’ve also gained experience in the
editorial aspects of broadcast news by writing and field-producing news stories,
and serving as the news director at my community college’s student-run radio
station.
Today, I’m living with six other guys in a large house
within walking distance to SDSU, simply trying to enjoy what’s left of my
college years.
